An integration of staircase and a lift into one device. Advancements in technology made disabled people to lead an independent life and play a more productive role in society. Stairways into buildings present a significant environmental barrier for those with mobility impairments, including older adults. A number of home access solutions that allow users to safely enter and exit the home exist, however these all have some limitations. The purpose of this work was to develop a novel, an inclusive home access solution that integrates a staircase and a lift into one device.
What can be the substitute of Lift where there is no sufficient space like in houses lift is not economical? There are places like two-story building where it is un-economical to install an elevator so it required a substitute. Elevator requires extra space and civil structure but increases its initial cost. Sometimes the user requires a temporary solution like in case of accidents so elevator is not the preferable choice there. The available substitutes/our competitors are using this system with chair but for someone who is on wheelchair, he can’t sit from wheelchair to the moving chair by himself. He require someone to help him. So the issue is still there. The handicapped isn’t independent. This device provides Accessibility to the Handicapped. |
In Pakistan, around three million people are disable. Advancements in technology made disabled people to lead an independent life and play a more productive role in society. Stairways into buildings present a significant environmental barrier for those with mobility impairments, including older adults. A number of home access solutions that allow users to safely enter and exit the home exist, however these all have some limitations. The purpose of this work was to develop a novel, an inclusive home access solution that integrates a staircase and a lift into one device. Our project has two parts, first is railing and second is rack and gear system. These two are assembled together. First part that is railing, railing is folded by angle of 120 degree. And we are using double pipes one pipe is on upside and second one is on downside and these two pipes are of 20 feet in length and these two are joined together by small pipe of 5-6 feet pipe. Second is a rack and gear system, that is a mechanism made by combination of Teflon wheels. We took three Teflon wheels and place them at angle of 120 degree and also attached them with pipe. At pipe circular surface area/radius we arrange them at 120 degree, by putting inside a piece of structural iron, this iron piece can be put as shaft between these Teflon wheels, and then attach of another two pieces of iron with this structure. So this mechanism is a rack and gear system. This two mechanism are then further attached with stand and then stand moves with the help of these two systems. And this is mechanical structure of our project, our electrical part we took motor that runs at battery of maximum 36 volts and control this up down flow with the help of switches/buttons and we safety barrier for the safety of user. The main objective of this project is to develop an indoor as well as outdoor stair lift. While going up and down the stairs safety is the primary concern, the present day, top quality lifts include many features to maximize comfort, ease of use and attractiveness in the home, which is a safe and affordable solution to overcome the unique needs and challenges that people experience on the stairs. Stair lift, the mobile chair-like mobility device attached on one side of stairways, allows to improve access for aged between floors at homes, and to make many people with mobility problems live independently through the internet of things. Hence, we are designing a single rail stair elevator to reduce production costs as well as construction time that is required in case of escalators and elevators. In context to the economical aspect of this system proves to be very promising and the typical context would always insist upon economy without compromising quality & multi-utility. Stair case lift can be adapted for its sheer use simplicity and economy. Therefore it can be widely used for home as well as industrial which ensures a promising future to the concept. |
