Problem Statement

In todays world, construction industry is growing very rapidly and it is needed to complete projects with requires minimum cost. After Studing different reports and researches,we are able to know that while using reactive powder concrete , it reduces heavy reinforcement in project and minimizes cost of the project. We are using bentonite (locally available material) and to vary their percentage and checking its effect on mechanical properties of reactive powder concrete.

Description

We varied quantity of bentonite in reactive powder concrete to check the behaviour and strengths of rpc under specific circumstances. Rpc is costly but it eliminates heavy reinforcement which can cost us much more than rpc. We have taken bentonite as a replacement of cement and check the results at 0,6,12,18% replacement.

Reactive Powder Concrete is a special material in which coarse aggregates are replaced by fines.RPC has dense micro-structure, low porosity and particle size homogeneity.

It is characterized by extremely good physical properties, particularly strength and ductility A composite material & ultra high strength with mechanical properties. Mixture of cement, silica fume, quartz powder, steel fiber(Optional) & super plasticized with a very low water cement ratio. This compactness gives RPC ultra-high strength and durability

 

  Composition of RPC • Components :- Function parameters 1) sand :- To increase bulk volume 2) cement :- Binding material 3) Quartz powder :- Maximum reactivity during heat-treating 4) Silica fume :- Filling the voids 5) Steel fiber :- Improve ductility 6) Superplasticizer :- Reduce water binding.

 Although RPC is costly but use of RPC eliminate massive reinforcement and also the dead load of concrete which results in material and cost saving.RPC’s performance was studied by replacing recycled fine aggregates with natural fine aggregates at different curing conditions. Mechanical Properties goes on increasing for 50% replacement and then decreases gradually.

Summary

We have done experiments to study the effect of varying bentonite content on mechanical properties of  rpc.0,6,12,18% these were the percentage of varying bentonite . Properties investigated were compressive,flexural,split tenslie,ultra sonic pulse velocity test,sorpitivity test,freeze and thaw, absorption test.  Tests were performed at 7,14,28 days to determine the accurate results.Mechanical Properties goes on increasing for 50% replacement and then decreases gradually.
