Humsafar - A Ride Sharing Application

Humsafar is basically a Carpooling application which encourages people to share their car journeys so that more than one person travels in a car. Carpooling has become a practical, cheap, and stress-free way to move around. It also provides an opportunity to meet new people. Carpooling reduces each person’s travels costs such as fuel costs, tolls, and the stress of driving.

Project Objectives:

Following are the objectives of our application:

  • Providing the users with affordable rides for daily as well as occasional commutes
  • Reducing Traffic Congestion as when three people carpool, there are two fewer cars on the road.
  • Introducing Local Friendly Payment Methods
  • Providing user with live location support for safety purposes
  • Allowing the user to give feedback about the ride's experience

Socio-economic Benefits:

Humsafar will enable people using this application to share expense, not worry about hiring a cab and making new connections. People having this application on their cell phone with advance facilities can easily carpool with unacquainted people without worrying about security.

Project Methodology:

The user will share his ride by entering the staring and destination locations, date, time and the fare for that journey. Then the ride will be shared and hosted on the server. Now another user will interact with the app to book a ride, he will enter the same details except for fare and then a request will be sent to server. Server will now match the details with the rides already available at server via  algorithms (geofencing) and then send back the request with the matches found. The user will then be able to see whether there is a ride scheduled with respect to the route he set or not. He can book the ride in case thre is any, and that is all.
